All Time Low: Everyone’s Talking!

All Time Low are releasing their tenth studio album, ‘Everyone’s Talking!’, bringing all that you’d ask from the band – and more! Pop-punk and alt-rock vibes, anthemic choruses, playful lyrics and catchy tunes are all blended together to shape what could easily be described as an all-time high creative era for the band.

The obvious banger in this album is rightfully picked as the opening single, ‘SUCKERPUNCH’. A highly energised, powerful and provocative track that might imperceptibly make you want to play this tune on repeat. Plus, the music video to it tells quite a story too – and although it has gathered only around 400k views on YouTube (undeservingly low), this only confirms the main notion that what makes someone legendary is not necessarily the “big names, big crowds, big noise”, as the narrator in the video candidly shares. And continues: “And sure, not every name makes the headlines. But greatness? Greatness ain’t a crown or a crowd or a headline. It’s a story someone tells about you when you’re not around to hear it. In the end, I figured this: you don’t gotta be everything to everyone. You just gotta matter to someone. And if you’re remembered, you’re never really gone.

The second single, ‘The Weather’, is a nostalgia-packed confession about a lost love, accompanied by a mid-tempo rhythm that makes a welcoming upbeat surge in the chorus:

“When I see you around
I don’t wanna talk about the weather
And I heard you’re doing better
Moved in with some asshole from God knows wherever
So we talk about the weather
When I see you around”

The third single, ‘Oh No!’, explores the overwhelmingly big question (and arguably, the most interesting topic in the music industry and art in general) that has been circling around for ages – are the vices, the demons and the pain that make a person struggle the exact same ingredients that are needed to serve a greater purpose in the name of art, that such hardships are the only way to ignite the creative spark and that they are what makes an artist truly great?

“Been tryin’ my hardest to make progress
To be someone I can live with
But what if it’s the madness in
The man that makes the music?”

The chorus hits even harder with this profound dilemma, presented in an amazingly catchy anthem-like style (something All Time Low have always excelled at):

“But if I’m not broken like I used to be
Will you still find me interesting?
If I built my brand on feeling sad
Do I need my broken-hearted back?
If I’m not dying inside underneath
This smile no one believes
If I built my brand on feeling sad
Do I need my broken-hearted back?”

Last month, the band released a third music video off the album – for the fourth single, ‘Butterflies’, which dives into the falseness in certain relationships that can feel ‘transactional’, as described by lead singer Alex Gaskarth, cited by Everything Alt.

“So what’s the point of holding on
When letting go’s the only way you’re changing?
Stop waiting for the grass to grow
You’re catching butterflies that ain’t worth chasing’”

Fans will be happy to know that the upcoming album boasts a total of 15 songs, each showing why All Time Low are still standing strong more than two decades since the band’s inception in 2003. In addition to the singles, it is worth checking out the entire album, out 17 October, including tracks such as the highly energised title song, the uniquely named ‘Viva Las Vagus Nerve’ (personally, it’s my ultimate favourite track off this album and I hope it gets released as a single because of its awesome pun title, and the young and rebellious feeling solidified with the too-catchy-to-describe chorus), as well as two silly love-like, feel-good songs – ‘Sugar’ (feat. JoJo) and ‘Bubblegum’.

This album, for all the high quality and infectious energy it undoubtedly brings, is bound to score grandly on the charts and, more importantly, in All Time Low’s fanbase hearts. It is the first record released via the band’s own imprint, Basement Noise Records, in partnership with Photo Finish Records/Virgin Music Group. And it is an album that is set to indeed have everyone talking!
