Catch Your Breath: Not Broken Enough

Catch Your Breath once again invite fans into their emotionally vulnerable world with their new album, Not Broken Enough, out 28 August via Thriller Records. Known for blending influences from a range of genres to create a sound entirely their own, the band continues to stand out in the rock and metal scene – and Not Broken Enough is yet another strong example of just what Catch Your Breath are capable of.

The opening song, ‘Contaminated’, immediately establishes the emotional weight at the centre of the record. Catch Your Breath balance Josh Mowery’s heavier vocal delivery with softer melodic passages, while the instrumentals provide a strong foundation for the track to build upon. As an opener, it effectively introduces both the sonic direction of the album and the vulnerability that runs throughout.

The intensity continues with ‘Blood Money’, one of the record’s heavier offerings. Its aggressive instrumentation and vocal performance give the track an immediate sense of urgency, but it is the subject matter that gives it its real impact. Exploring the idea of ‘blood money’ and the consequences of taking what is not rightfully yours, the song broadens the album’s lyrical scope and adds another dimension to its exploration of relationships and conflict.

‘Carnivore’ takes a similarly confrontational approach, focusing on the decision to distance yourself from a toxic relationship rather than continuing to be someone’s last resort. The track carries plenty of force, but its strength lies in the clarity of its message. There are also noticeable thematic similarities to Catch Your Breath’s single from 2023, ‘Y.S.K.W.’, particularly in the refusal to return to a relationship that has already caused damage.

At the midpoint of the album, ‘Rewind’ offers a change of pace. The track recalls the more melodic side of Catch Your Breath’s sound, with elements that may appeal to fans of ‘Dial Tone’. Its lighter instrumentation and slower pacing allow the lyrics to take centre stage, creating one of the record’s more reflective moments without disrupting the momentum established by the songs around it.

The previously released singles, ‘Lost’, ‘[Gen]inside’ which features alternative artist Kami Kehoe and ‘Dark’, have already demonstrated the range of Not Broken Enough, leaving ‘Hollow Dreams’ to bring the record to a close. As the final chapter, the track draws together many of the themes explored throughout the album. After directing the majority of the record towards topics around navigating conflict, heartbreak and emotional exhaustion, the closing song shifts the focus towards self-preservation, truth and the possibility of moving forward.

Overall, Not Broken Enough is a strong step forward for Catch Your Breath. The record moves comfortably between heavier and more melodic moments without losing its identity, while its lyrics give each track a clear sense of purpose. For a band only on their second studio album, Catch Your Breath demonstrate a clear understanding of the sound and the themes they want to explore. Not Broken Enough is a focused and emotionally charged record that reinforces their place within the modern rock and metal scene – and could easily become one of the genre’s standout releases of 2026.
