Delilah Bon: Princeless Princess

How often do you revisit the fairytales that shaped your childhood — and realise they were never meant to empower you? That being a girl meant being passive, waiting to be saved? ‘Princeless Princess’ is a fierce, unrelenting scream against a system that continues to enable violence against women and girls — and, more importantly, a system that has always existed to uphold male power and privilege.

The brat punk is back with a new EP ‘Princeless Princess’ — louder, fiercer and even more defiant. Once again, she takes aim at misogyny, the patriarchy and this time at one of its most ingrained messages: the fairytales we grew up with. The EP is set to be released on 26th of September. This is Delilah Bon’s second EP, following the release of her second album ‘Evil, Hate Filled Female’ in 2024, and was produced and recorded by Delilah herself — a true DIY powerhouse.

The opening track, ‘Princeless Princess’, was released back in May and immediately set the tone for the entire EP. It dives headfirst into the messed-up fairytales we’ve been fed — the ones that promise a Prince Charming as saviour. But Delilah shapes it into a bold statement, reminding girls and women that they don’t need saving, and certainly not by a man. With sharp lyrics and Riot Grrrl energy, she spits powerful truths, tearing apart the narrative so many have blindly believed.

‘Dragon’ is the second track on the EP, and here Delilah jumps into a powerful and deeply personal piece about her internal battles and the mental strain brought on by stress. The track is catchy, layered with grungy, distorted bass, and the lyrics unfold like a page from a diary. There’s a raw, honest flow to it, capturing the weight of mental health struggles and emotional suffering with striking vulnerability. This song definitely stands out — it breaks from the EP’s main theme but showcases Delilah’s pain and vulnerability.

Staying on the fairytale theme, ‘Cinderella’ delivers another powerful track. This time, the princess bites back at abusers. The song burns with rage and defiance, capturing anger in a way that clearly reflects Delilah’s work as an activist refusing to stay quiet. There’s a sense of spinning chaos throughout — raw, lyrically sharp and sonically relentless.

The closing track, ‘Bush’, comes in fast and fierce, with rapid-fire rapping and an unapologetic message: my body, my choice.

‘Princeless Princess’ is a bold and powerful statement that aligns perfectly with Delilah Bon’s activism and her identity as a woman fighting against oppression. It stands as a significant contribution to the contemporary third-wave feminist movement.

To mark the release, Delilah is taking ‘Princeless Princess’ on tour across the EU and the UK, kicking off in mid-October and running through early November. The tour will begin in Belgium, followed by shows in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the UK.
