Kingdom Of Giants: Burning Chrome
‘Burning Chrome’ is metalcore-synthwave electronica mayhem — in all the best ways. Electrically experimental with feverish metalcore riffs, cyberpunk synths and commanding vocals, it proves why Kingdom of Giants remain at the forefront of the scene.
Coming off their previous EP ‘Bleeding Star’, Kingdom of Giants return with Burning Chrome — a release that expands their interplay of synth textures and powerful vocals even further. The six-track release is immaculate in its sound design, balancing vocal dynamics between Dana Willax and Jonny Reeves with precision.
‘Tune Me Out’ wastes no time showcasing their chemistry, as Willax and Reeves trade lines over an electronic soundscape backed by crushing bass riffs. This interplay deepens on ‘Cold Burn’, where Reeves’ range is spotlighted before both voices collide in a chaotic, bone-snapping breakdown.
The second track, ‘Collide’, stands out on the EP, merging elements of pastelcore and EDM-inspired synths with dense breakdowns and Truman Berlin’s intricate drum work. Lush in its electronic layers, aggressive in vocals and infectiously catchy, the track channels euphoric energy — evoking the spirit of early 2000s AMVs in the best way possible.
Slowing the pace, ‘Lead Me Back’ embraces a darker, brooding atmosphere. Punchy bass and guitar ground the track, while raw, pain-laced screams elevate its intensity. It’s a haunting contrast that highlights the band’s versatility.
The EP closes with its boldest tracks. ‘Taste of Poison’ begins melodic and restrained before shifting mid-song into a crushing breakdown — fusing guitar reverb snaps, sharp drum fills and layered screams into a commanding finale. ‘Digital Hell’ then pulls all elements of the record into overdrive. Its synth-crafted landscape and seamless vocal trade-offs deliver one of Kingdom of Giants’ strongest songs to date, a payoff worthy of repeat listens.
With ‘Burning Chrome’, Kingdom of Giants continue their evolution, perfecting the union of synthwave textures and metalcore ferocity. A screaming cyberpunk soundscape, it’s an EP designed to be lived in as much as listened to.
