The Plot In You: The Volume Series

2023 saw the beginning of a brutal onslaught. Four formidable Volumes, three tracks per release, were unleashed, leaving a swelling fanbase eagerly awaiting their next fix. It was all leading to one catastrophic conclusion: The Volume Series. American metalers The Plot In You have assembled their canonical tracks into the album fans have been dreaming of.

If you are new to this band, it will give you everything you need to become hooked.

Confrontational lyrics and an expansive sonic palette reflect the deep introspection that comes from observations of today’s world in this deeply relatable and provocative body of work. Embodying the push and pull of life, screaming riffs abruptly give way to the soft tones of vocalist Landon Tewers. ‘Divide’ introduces you to the visceral experience that should come with a listener warning. Your eyes are about to be opened, and you won’t even realise it.

Embracing their genre-blending strengths, ‘Left Behind’ reveals that their impact is not reliant on corrosive screams and aggressive breakdowns. Soaring, borderline cinematic cries of “I left behind everything you killed inside” hit hard.

In the same vein, ‘Pretend’ is so catchy and joyous that you almost miss the admission: “No one cares to see we are sickening, can’t face the pain, can’t make amends, so we just all pretend”. Before you realise what’s happening, you’re processing emotions and harsh realities in a euphoric flow state. Power is found in risky contrasts. ‘Spare Me’ commands your attention with chugs and aggressive vocals, but the weight lies in the haunting falsetto that calls your soul home.

‘Forgotten’ does not fall into this category. Abrasive screams cover every lyric, with breakdowns to match. In a defiant lament, under a spotlight of silence, Landon cries, “I have spent my life chasing things that have only brought me pain. In the end, when I’m dead, I hope it was for something”.

If there is one verse from any of their discography that you’ve heard, it will be this one. It lands exactly as intended, and it is this relatability and commercial catharsis that draws you in for more.

In keeping with the fact-only approach, booming rhythmic drum beats from Michael Cooper make you sit up and listen to ‘You Get One’. Serrated screams push into focus, “You get one, one soul, then you go away (this one’s it).” Tough to swallow, but a necessary reality check. Glitches, thrashing drums, and hollowed-out voices amplify the intensity of the subject and make it pit-worthy.

Concluding with the album’s only unreleased track, ‘Carved’ is grand finale material. Anthemic and heartfelt, with flecks of raspy cries, it fits neatly into the fold.

Unapologetically, The Plot In You are forging their own path through the metal scene, and a band of loyal followers are treading the path behind them, eagerly awaiting what’s in store following this monumental conclusion.

The Plot In You set off to support Bring Me The Horizon, along with Motionless In White, on the POST HUMAN: NeX GEn – THE THIRD ASCENSION PROGRAM Tour in late 2026 and early 2027.
