TX2: We're Going to Hell for This
TX2 have never been a band to shy away from controversy. Whether tackling identity, religion or social oppression, the band have built a reputation for pairing provocative themes with explosive alternative rock, earning a dedicated following in the process. Following the release of their debut album, End of Us, earlier this year, TX2 now return with their latest EP, We're Going to Hell for This, releasing on 30 July via Hopeless Records. Building on the themes that have become synonymous with the band’s music, the EP showcases a confident continuation of their sound while proving that TX2 remain one of the most exciting acts in the scene today.
The EP opens with ‘THE HUMAN DISEASE’, one of only two previously unheard tracks on the release, immediately setting the tone for everything that follows. The slower, more atmospheric introduction in the beginning of the track showcases singer Evan Thomas’ emotive vocals while sharing a similar feel to ‘End of Us’ (featuring Black Veil Brides). Exploring the idea of love as a disease that humanity is destined to suffer from, the song examines the futility of something so many people desperately crave. Evan’s past experiences with love seem to shine through in the deeply personal lyrics, while the band’s gripping instrumentals, killer guitar riffs and intricate shifts in pace add even more depth to the opening track.
Without losing momentum, the EP launches into ‘Pickup Truck’ and immediately delivers the gnarly, defiant lyrics that TX2 are known for. With pacing reminiscent of an early-2000s Limp Bizkit track, it is easy to see why the song has already become a fan favourite. Furthermore, its lyrics reflect the band’s fierce determination to say exactly what they want through their music, regardless of the backlash they often receive.
The mood then shifts with ‘Evil is Contagious’, featuring ska-punk legends Reel Big Fish. Bright ukulele instrumentals give the track an infectious, carefree energy, creating a striking contrast with its heavier subject matter. Beneath its playful sound, however, lies a message about the fear of self-expression that resonates with many listeners. By pairing serious themes with an inviting, accessible sound, TX2 once again demonstrate their ability to create music that fans can genuinely connect with.
From there, the EP takes a darker turn with ‘I Know What You Did’, the second of the previously unreleased tracks. Despite being the shortest song on the record, it still packs a punch. Driven by heavier instrumentals and a haunting lyrical message, the track delves into feelings of guilt and betrayal. Evan’s raw, emotionally charged vocal performance brings those emotions to the surface, making it one of the EP’s most personal songs.
Finally, we've saved the best until last with ‘Confession’. This song explores identity and the shamelessness that comes with self-expression, putting a unique spin on the word "confession" through the religious references woven throughout the track. With the addition of bandmate Courtney ‘Corky’ Howard’s vocals, the combination of these two talented singers makes ‘Confession’ a true standout on the EP, serving as a nod to some of their earlier, equally vicious tracks, such as ‘Heaven Was Full (I'm Headed Straight to Hell)’ (2023).
Overall, We're Going to Hell for This is an EP well worth looking forward to. While remaining true to the themes that have defined TX2, it also highlights how far they have come as songwriters and performers. With a UK and European tour scheduled for February and March 2027, the band continue to build on an already impressive year, and if this EP is anything to go by, they show no intentions of slowing down.
