Japanese punk trio Dizzy Sunfist are set to release their next studio album, OUR DREAM IS NOT DEAD, on 18 September via Fat Wreck Chords, and it is already shaping up to be a release worth paying attention to. Having built a strong reputation in Japan since forming in 2009, the trio have steadily expanded their presence internationally. ‘So Beautiful’ takes a more uplifting approach, with lyrics centred on the beauty of life and the happiness that comes from simply being alive. Beneath the heavier instrumentation are straightforward but genuinely encouraging words, giving the song a message that feels both sincere and powerful. ‘I am so happy to live, because I have so much love to give.’ It quickly became one of my favourites on the album.
The album closes with ‘The Dream Is Not Dead’, a title that echoes the record itself. Already released as a single, the track brings together everything that makes the album work so well: energetic instrumentation, passionate vocals and an uplifting message about pursuing your dreams. There is a clear sense of conviction throughout, making it a fitting conclusion to an album built around determination, optimism and self-belief.
Overall, OUR DREAM IS NOT DEAD is an enjoyable and uplifting record that captures what Dizzy Sunfist do best. Its combination of energetic punk, catchy melodies and simple but meaningful messages makes it an accessible listen, even for those discovering the band for the first time.
